Our Story

Orpa Hunting Safaris was founded in 1998 by Drik Smit, a third-generation Namibian with a passion for wildlife conservation and ethical hunting. What began as a small family operation on our ancestral farm has grown into one of Namibia's most respected hunting outfitters.

The name "Orpa" comes from the farm that has been in our family for generations, located in the pristine wilderness of the Otjiwarongo region. This 30,000-acre property offers diverse habitats that support a wide variety of game species, from plains game to dangerous game.

Today, Orpa Hunting Safaris is still family-owned and operated, with the second generation now actively involved in all aspects of the business. We maintain the same core values that the company was founded on: ethical hunting practices, conservation of wildlife and habitat, and providing our clients with authentic, personalized African hunting experiences.

Orpa Hunting Safaris History

Our Philosophy

At Orpa Hunting Safaris, we believe that ethical hunting and conservation go hand in hand. Our approach is guided by three core principles:

Ethical Hunting

We adhere to the highest ethical standards in all our hunting operations. This includes fair chase principles, selective harvesting, and humane hunting practices that respect the animals and the environment.

Conservation

We are committed to wildlife conservation and habitat preservation. A portion of our proceeds goes directly to conservation initiatives, and our hunting practices are designed to support sustainable wildlife populations.

Community Involvement

We believe in giving back to the local communities. We employ local staff, support community development projects, and work with neighboring communities to promote sustainable land use and wildlife management.

Meet the Family

Our team is our family, both literally and figuratively. With decades of combined experience in African hunting and hospitality, we work together to create unforgettable experiences for our clients.
